Styled Shoot | Beach {without the beach} | Los Angeles Wedding Photographer Becca Rillo

Another fantastic shoot by a bunch of my favorite girls! I'll let the pictures speak for themselves, but I'll add in some commentary here and there: enjoy!

Molly working her magic...

Our model's hair just sparkled in the gorgeous light:

Emilee's details are darling! Who would have ever thought that an old scale, a doilie and some seashells would have looked this good??! This is why I love Em!

I just died over the super subtle rope detail for the napkin ring! How cute is that??

The bouquet was so pretty and looked like a bunch of wild sea-flowers that were picked by a mermaid! Wild, yet tamed.. Samantha is fantastic!

And to top it off, we had a beautiful sunset finale! A perfect ending to all of our hard work..

Just a Little Sneak Peek | Desert Shoot

Phew! This week has been intense! I've done more more jobs this week than I ever thought I could, but here I am.. still standing and ready for more! Holly of Cakes & Kisses photography invited me along on this beautiful shoot and I couldn't be more grateful. I mean, take one look at the photo below and you'll see why! While going through some of the photos from this shoot I asked Kyle to pick out which one he liked the best and he picked this one, and I have to admit.. this one is definitely in the top 5! So enjoy this sweet sneak peek from a beautiful styled shoot in the desert (more to come soon!).

Styled Shoot | The Princess & the Pea | Los Angeles Wedding Photographer Becca Rillo

Whew! Well, I'm sure you all have noticed some big changes around the blog. Specifically..everything! I finally figured out what I was doing and put together an official website (which you can find if you click my logo at the top of the page) and I couldn't be happier with it! New branding, new colors, new look, new website.. I'm glad to be starting out fresh. Now I just have to go through and re-watermark all of my photos on here, but that's just too much work for my tired eyes at the moment..

So here we go: The moment you all have been waiting for.. The Princess & the Pea! I have had the opportunity to work with an insanely talented group of girls in the past couple of months. We have had so much fun brainstorming, plotting and exchanging late-night e-mails! I'm glad to know these girls and you can find them all listed at the bottom of the photos.

When I originally thought of this idea I wasn't exactly sure how it was all going to come together. I considered picking up old mattresses from Craigslist or even pulling the mattress off of my own bed! However, at the last moment I decided to go with air-mattresses that I borrowed from friends! So although it was incredibly unstable, it looked fantastic. When I think of fairy tales I think of bright colors, so that was the main inspiration for the overall aesthetic of this shoot. We wrapped the mattresses with antique chenille bedspreads and threw in some bobbley yarn for good measure! Obviously since I love vintage, we though in a vintage twist with rentals but kept it bright and modern with fun florals! I can't get over how much I love the purple pokey flowers that are in the bouquet.

Our models, Hope and John, are happily engaged and will be tying the knot in October! Hope was such a gorgeous model as she posed on the unstable pile of mattresses, and John just made us laugh the whole time. We loved working with both of them and wish them all of the happiness in the world!

Big changes | A Sneak Peek at The Princess & the Pea!

Things have really started to change in my life... for the better, I think. Job changes, friendship changes, mind changes. It's funny how differently I look at 2011 now than I looked at it at the end of 2010. At the end of 2010, I was convinced that my life would take another 3 years to really get going. That I was stuck at the day-job I had because I needed the financial security. That I couldn't control my own life, rather it was being controlled for me. I was tired, I was discouraged, and worst of all I was torn between all of the many, many voices in my head that were pulling me in completely different directions. Well here we are, just about 3 months through 2011 and it's amazing how different this year is shaping up to be. I'm taking that leap of faith and making big changes to my life. I'm working on big changes for my business and expanding my portfolio with photoshoots that I'm hoping will grace the pages of fabulous blogs in the not-to-distant future. And I am so happy. You know why?

Because for the first time, in a long time I might add, I am doing what makes me happy. Not what makes sense in my head, because my logical brain is screaming at my creative brain, "What are you doing?!?" but I...don't...care :) So with that said.. look for much more frequent blog posts from me and enjoy a sneak peek of my latest photoshoot: The Princess & the Pea.

Styled Shoots!

Models: I am in the process of putting the finishing touches on some fantastic Styled Shoots that I am planning on hosting this year. Each photoshoot will involve a bride and a groom in a faux-wedding situation and feature a particular theme of my choosing   : )    In exchange for being one of my lovely models, you will receive all of your photos on a disk for your own personal use.. and you get to dress up and play pretend! It's win-win. Interested? Read on.

It would make my life so much easier if you had your own wedding dress, however, I know not everyone I will photograph is married or even dating someone. So I have a few dresses that I will lend out and I plan on accumulating more over the course of the year.. go figure! Please contact me if this sounds like fun and if you'd like to be a part of my special projects! I plan on submitting some of these styled shoots to magazines and blogs so you might be featured in one! Fun fun.

If you are interested please send me an e-mail with your contact info, your dress size/shoe size/ring size, and a full body shot! If you have a significant other that you plan on dragging with you, a full body shot of him would be lovely as well!

Photographers:

Want to get in on this? You can   : )    I'm going to be hosting one guest photographer at each one of my shoots! Fabulous, right? Totally free to you and you just have to show up! The catch: you can't submit any of your images to publication and if you post them on your blog/website I have to get some type of shout out. Other than that, you're golden! If this seems like fun to you, shoot me an e-mail and hopefully we can work together.

Everyone Else:

Stylists, florist, jewelers, hair-stylists, make-up artists, graphic designers and everything in-between..

I need you too! As much as I like to think I can do everything on my own, I can't. I need your skill and you need my awesome networking powers so I think we'll do well together  ; )   Once again, a totally fantastic deal to you.. You provide your services to me and in return you receive all of the images on a disk to use for your marketing/blog/website...whatever. The catch: You need to either leave my watermark on them or give me a little shout out somewhere. Seriously win-win for everyone involved!

Please contact me as soon as humanly possible so I can start planning my year around these shoots! I hope to hear from you and I'll see you through my lens <3

Ryan & Destiny | Married | Palm Desert, California | Los Angeles Wedding Photographer Becca Rillo

If I had to pick one word to describe the overall feel of this wedding, it would be "Support". There was nothing but love and kind words surrounding this couple as they became husband and wife (and even shared their FIRST kiss!) in front of their family and friends. Not only do these two know how to break it down on the dance floor, but I know they will have their Happily Ever After that they so deserve. Congrats again, Mr. & Mrs. King.. It was an honor!

Nick & Bre | Engaged | Santa Clarita, California | Los Angeles Wedding Photographer Becca Rillo

I'll start off by saying the elements were against us for this engagement shoot. We had to cancel our first session because of the totally unexpected rains that graced all of Southern California. Then when we rescheduled, it was so cold and so windy that it was hard to think at times. But these two pushed through it! Nick and Bre are so sweet and so loving,  you can't even tell that they're close to getting hypothermia as I'm making them lay down on the freezing ground.. I can't wait for their WARM wedding on June 11th, 2011, it's going to be amazing!

Tim & Tara: Engaged! | Santa Clarita, California | Los Angeles Wedding Photographer Becca Rillo

Just another fantastic Charity Shootout from the phenomenal Jen O'Sullivan... as usual :) She's been kicking butt raising money for the Children's Hospital HOPE program and in doing so, she manages to put on a great event time after time! So here's to Jen! And here's to my fantastic first couple of the evening: Tim + Tara. I'll admit that I was somewhat unmotivated as I approached this Shootout. I had been sick for the past couple of days and had just finished a particularly frustrating day at work. I wasn't in the mood to take pictures, I was in the mood to go home, find the highest calorie snack in my pantry and pig out in front of the Sister Wives marathon I had TiVo'd the day before. (Admit it, you watch it too.). But I had made a commitment to this Shootout and I wasn't going to bail. So I hauled myself over to Central Park dreading every mile.

Well...

My mood immediately shifted when I met Tim and Tara. Such a cute couple!! Little shocks of lightening ran through my fingers as I turned on my camera and all of the sudden I wasn't tired anymore :) I wasn't hungry and I was having a lovely day.. And I remembered why I love what I do. It is such an honor for a couple to let you into their little world, to catch a glimpse of their love and make it last forever. To celebrate that they have found the person that they want to spend forever with. Ahhh.... Thanks you guys for waking my up from my day and reminding my why I love being a photographer.

Nate & Molly: Married! | Santa Clarita, California | Los Angeles Wedding Photographer Becca Rillo

I'm an Etsy Whore. I'll just put that out there to start with, I am obsessed with Etsy. Homemade, totally creative headbands, decorations, home goods, wedding stuff. Everything :) If I had unlimited funds to decorate my home, I would decorate everything with Etsy stuff, well.. that and Anthropologie, but that's another blog post all together. This wedding was super cute! With a "Lovebirds" themed wedding, you seriously can't go wrong. Emilee Sutherland is the creative mastermind behind Tasteful Tatters and she kicked butt with this wedding. She custom made the bride's veil and coordinated all of the other decorations with a wonderful team of family and friends. Poor thing, I thought her feet were going to fall off at the end of the night from all of the running back and forth. But she was invaluable to Nate + Molly, and I don't even think that they fully realize everything that she did for them. The night couldn't have happened without her. Seriously, if you need a coordinator or if you need help styling your wedding, get in touch with Emilee. For reals.

Anyhow, enjoy the photographs of the newly married, Mr. & Mrs. Reynolds!

Kitty Acupuncture?

My cat had acupuncture on Wednesday. True story, I've never had acupuncture done and I honestly didn't even know that you could do it on cats.. but apparently you can. I took Origami in to have his hips looked at. He's an older cat and was walking a little stiff so I figured maybe there was a kitty-glucosamine or something for his joints that they could prescribe. The doctor was super nice, in fact, the entire staff was incredibly welcoming and nice. If you live in Santa Clarita (or Santa Clarita adjacent) and have a cat, I highly recommend The Cat Doctor & Friends. Anywhoooo.. Our doctor felt around on his hips and while she was explaining the joint meds to me, she took his little neck and cracked it both ways! I gasped! What on earth was she doing to my baby??! She must have noticed the stunned look of horror on my face because she said, "Oh! I'm just adjusting his neck, it was a little tight." He got his neck adjusted. Spoiled, spoiled brat cat. After the whole neck-cracking situation, she suggested that I try Kitty-Acupuncture to help little Ori out with his hip problem. "Kitty-Acupuncture?" I asked, "Is that expensive?" She told me it was about $50 and that she'd go see if their on-staff acupuncturist was available. She came in and gently, sweetly, softly stuck little needles up and down his spine. There was even one on his head! Sooo funny! Unfortunately, all I had was my camera phone to take a picture of my silly cat and I don't know how to post it online. After the alloted 10 minutes of needle time, she pulled them all out and then set him on the floor to check out his walk. Perfect. No limp, no grunting.. I'm a believer. His hips are really stiff so we'll be going back in another couple of weeks for some more acupuncture. But she said a couple more sessions and he should be as good as new. Interesting, huh? My camera will be along for the ride next time so I'll post some pictures of Ori with needles in him!

Nicki & Clifton | Expecting | Los Angeles Maternity Photographer Becca Rillo

There's nothing cuter than a little round belly :) I love maternity sessions so much! There's just a special glow, and I'm sure there's a scientific explanation for it, but that glow just radiates through my lens... And it's like a little guessing game about what the baby will look like! Here are my official guesses (feel free to comment your own!!):

  • Tan skin
  • Light brown/Dirty blonde hair
  • Blue eyes

Nicki and Clifton are both such unique people and I can't wait to see what their baby looks like. Such endless combinations of features, Caden is going to be a little ladies man!

**September 19th, 2011: UPDATE: My guesses were pretty much totally wrong. I got his hair color right, but that's about it! Here's sweet baby Caden today:

And here's what he looked like while he was still hanging out with Nicki!

The Call Family | Santa Clarita, California | Los Angeles Family Photographer Becca Rillo

I have a small family. There's 3 of us. I have a small extended family. I have 5 cousins and I'm the oldest one. My husband's family is a different story...

Jealous doesn't even begin to explain how I feel about the bond that Kyle's huge extended family has. Even though they live in different states and are hundreds of miles away, they see each other all the time and are super close :) They fly out for highschool graduations, weddings, and family vacations!! I'm still having a problem remembering everyone's names because they all look the same. Haha I kid you not, they are all really pretty, have blonde hair, and blue eyes. The guys and the girls ;)

Jenny is my favorite. Favorite, favorite, favorite. She's Kyle's cousin and she's the one I know the best. I seriously wish she lived closer because I would make her into my new best friend! She is an awesome mom to 2 beautiful little girls, Elsie and Adelaide. Oh, and Kenton isn't half bad either ;) Haha

August | Where on Earth did July go? | Charity Shootout Sneak Peek

July was an insane month for me! I would show you a copy of my planner, but you still wouldn't believe me... I have different color highlighters that keep me organized and I try to balance my life by the number of colored lines on my planner. Orange lines are hair-clients, green is work, yellow are photography clients, blue is the gym and pink...ahhh... pink is Becca Time. Pink is all of the things that I don't actually have to do, but I choose to do anyway. Pink is the only sanity on my planner and the only color I look forward to after a long day at work :) Well, pink was lacking in July.. however, I got to be a part of an incredible Engagement Shootout hosted by none other than the fabulous Jen O'Sullivan. It was one out of only 5 pink events that month so needless to say, I was super excited to be there. I had the opportunity to work with 8 insanely different couples for about 10-15 minutes each and here are some of my favorites so far (I've only processed 5 couples so I'm still working on the other 3)!

Married! ...and a new Blog! | Los Angeles Wedding Photographer Becca Rillo

Happy July everyone! I know most people make new years resolutions, or resolutions on their birthdays.. but mine is more like a "Post-Wedding" resolution. I've been so wrapped up in wedding planning (over a year, my friends..over a year) that I haven't had any time to focus on my business or even in my personal life. Ask anyone I know, I've been slightly MIA for a while.. be it phone calls, or e-mails.. my mind has definitely been elsewhere.

That being said: I'm going to a better person. My e-mails will be returned on time. My phone calls will be dealt with (FYI: I hate, hate, hate voicemails, so if you leave me one.. I won't listen to it for a week. That will never change! Haha) and my business will grow. Hopefully my business will blow-up.. but I'll settle for "grow" for the time being..

I think if I write down my resolutions I'll be more likely to actually follow through, so I'll be working on a list to post. I'm better at getting things done if I give myself a timeline, it's worked up until now so I don't see why I should stop!

Becca
