Newhall Wedding: Marc & Robyn

Back in August, I was lucky enough to photograph Marc & Robyn's beautiful wedding. I loved the sweet simplicity of the entire event and the calm, casual energy that Robyn had all day. There's something to be said for a bride who doesn't freak out on the day of her wedding and thank goodness that Robyn was as cool as a cucumber. The ceremony was quick and lovely. They hiked up to some ruins in a field and all of the guests stood below them as they exchanged vows. They were combining their families so Robyn's four children and Marc's two children were the bridal party! The whole affair was very sweet :) There were a lot of fun "firsts" for me at this wedding.. Let's start with #1:

#1: I've never photographed a family friend before. It's really fun to know someone a little better than just a Starbucks date! I was able to photograph her in a way that I might not have just because I knew a little more about her..

#2: I've never photographed a second marriage before. It was such a touching moment when Robyn's daughter helped her put her necklace on and I'm pretty sure there wasn't one dry eye in that room.

Robyn just couldn't stop crying and I had turned around to leave to give them a couple of minutes alone. But I glanced back for one second and stole this beautiful moment of Marc wiping away her tears.. ahh! So sweet!

Robyn and her kids were so cute! That has got to be the best feeling in the world as a mom..

#3: I've never been in a situation where someone lost the ring! Somebody.. not naming names.. was twirling his ring-bearer pillow like it was an Olympic sport and all of the sudden.. Marc's ring was missing. Everyone dropped to their knees (except me, I guess..) and scoured the dry grass looking for it. The pastor was looking, even my lovely assistant, Cherie, lent a helping hand! But before long, the ring was found! And all was as it should be. Marc tied that darn ring onto that pillow so tightly that he couldn't get it off during the ceremony..you'll see)

(Notice Marc's hand? The string from the pillow was still attached :) he just ripped it right off!)

#4: I've never photographed another photographer before! Let me just say that, as a wedding photographer, it's the ultimate complement to have a fellow wedding photographer ask you to shoot their wedding. You can see Robyn's work here!

Josh & Amber | Engaged | Santa Clarita, California | Los Angeles Wedding Photographer Becca Rillo

I was on such a roll with blogging.. such a roll. And then the unthinkable happened: I filled up my hard-drive. My 2 TERABYTE hard-drive! My first one ever, it was definitely a milestone. However, it totally through a monkey wrench into my blogging because I didn't have enough space to create new pictures! AND since I'm cheap..frugal, I suppose.. I chose the Super Saver Shipping option from Amazon and it took 2+ weeks to get my new one delivered! I learned my lesson and I'm back in my groove, I promise. Here we go! The long-awaited Part Two of Josh & Amber's Engagement Session!

Nathan & Sarah | Love | Santa Clarita, California | Los Angeles Wedding Photographer Becca Rillo

When I got my very first camera a while back, I needed test subjects. Ones that I could move around like puppets and put it weird situations with sun in their eyes, in other words torture for the sake of my art. Well, Nathan and Sarah volunteered.. I guess not so much volunteered as they were recruited (Nathan is my one and only sweet, baby brother and so Sarah had to participate by default). They tromped out into a field with me, Nathan carried a big ol' throne-like chair (anyone remember this shoot?) and they posed patiently while I fiddled with my camera and got the lighting "just right". They tweaked their necks in awkward positions for me to get that "perfect shot". They avoided twisting their ankles in gopher holes and kept an eye out for angry snakes while I shrieked with delight over my photos.. Well here we are about a year and a half later and we figured they were about due for some new photos. They've aged a bit and both have gotten new pairs of Converse, so once again, I drug them out into a field and shot them. Haha! Although this time (and I'm sure they would agree with me) it was a much more professional experience and not so painful. So thank you both, from the bottom of my heart. I love you.

After too much serious posing, sometimes you have to lighten the mood with a ballerina-style kick!

Nice, Sarah! Haha

Nathan's good looks are obviously the reason Sarah was attracted to him in the first place....

I turned around for a second to look at some cute dogs behind me and when I looked back at Nathan and Sarah, they were gone. "Interesting..", I thought to myself, until I noticed the tops of their heads peeking over the grass! I scooted up closer for this picture so I could see them better, but they had pretty much disappeared. Apparently, Sarah had gotten some stickers stuck in her pants and they took my moment of distraction as their opportunity to remedy the situation.

I'm glad they did because it ended up being a phenomenal photo-op!

I'm going to take a moment here to ask (rhetorically), "How cute is Sarah?!?". I swear...

Ryan & Destiny | Married | Palm Desert, California | Los Angeles Wedding Photographer Becca Rillo

If I had to pick one word to describe the overall feel of this wedding, it would be "Support". There was nothing but love and kind words surrounding this couple as they became husband and wife (and even shared their FIRST kiss!) in front of their family and friends. Not only do these two know how to break it down on the dance floor, but I know they will have their Happily Ever After that they so deserve. Congrats again, Mr. & Mrs. King.. It was an honor!

Nate & Molly: Married! | Santa Clarita, California | Los Angeles Wedding Photographer Becca Rillo

I'm an Etsy Whore. I'll just put that out there to start with, I am obsessed with Etsy. Homemade, totally creative headbands, decorations, home goods, wedding stuff. Everything :) If I had unlimited funds to decorate my home, I would decorate everything with Etsy stuff, well.. that and Anthropologie, but that's another blog post all together. This wedding was super cute! With a "Lovebirds" themed wedding, you seriously can't go wrong. Emilee Sutherland is the creative mastermind behind Tasteful Tatters and she kicked butt with this wedding. She custom made the bride's veil and coordinated all of the other decorations with a wonderful team of family and friends. Poor thing, I thought her feet were going to fall off at the end of the night from all of the running back and forth. But she was invaluable to Nate + Molly, and I don't even think that they fully realize everything that she did for them. The night couldn't have happened without her. Seriously, if you need a coordinator or if you need help styling your wedding, get in touch with Emilee. For reals.

Anyhow, enjoy the photographs of the newly married, Mr. & Mrs. Reynolds!
